Process

Lilia Chandran Fine Jewelry is always made by hand- from mixing and pouring solid 18k gold alloys, to hand-pulling wire through steal plates, to setting each unique stone and polishing. All of Lilia Chandran’s clasps and closures are made in house.

Each piece is carefully created by Lilia with hand-fabrication techniques, ensuring quality and fair-trade practices.

About Lilia

German born goldsmith, Lilia Ramachandran received accreditation from the Handwerkskammer Karlsruhe in 2019 after attending the Goldschmiedeschule Pforzheim and completing an apprenticeship at Bagger & Gehring in Hamburg, Germany.

Lilia currently resides in Northern California, where she walks beaches, draws and works in 18k gold, using the ancient hand fabrication techniques learned during her traditional German education. Lilia is inspired by her German and Indian heritage, loud music and a preference for effortless and comfortable pieces that can be worn every day.

Ethics

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

When I first dreamt up my business as a teenager, I imagined a brand that could claim to be completely ethical and sustainable.

However, I have learned that as in all industries and in almost any action that we take, there is no perfect, there is always some impact. I feel that it would be lacking in integrity for me to claim otherwise. Terms like “ethical” and “sustainable” have no industry definitions and I do not feel comfortable defining them for you and/or using them for the sake of sales.

That being said, I do, without exception, choose the conflict free, recycled and small business marked options when purchasing materials. Through my small and slow hand craft approach in my own studio, I ensure that no employees are being dealt an unfair shake. I consciously create classic and durable designs to last for generations with solid precious metal alloys and high quality stones, so that even if it is ever time for change, the pieces can be re-designed without any waste. I do not use any casting or factory production, and I do personally believe that supporting individual artists like myself when making purchases is one of the better, if not best, options available.

When you support my business, you are supporting me. I acknowledge my personal responsibility to the earth with my own private purchases and vow to prioritize second-hand, recycled and small business options.
